Video Marketing Trends: Short Form, Mobile Content

This post is 380 words —a 2 minute read.

Predictions for upcoming video marketing trends and the fate of current trends can be hit or miss, but two trends that we expect to see flourish are the prevalence of mobile media consumption and short form video content.

The consumption of content on mobile devices is nothing new, but the rate at which it continues to grow even now is noteworthy. This is the result of several factors, including improved, faster networks and more consumers in emerging markets. According to Cisco, while “37 percent of consumer media consumption already takes place on mobile devices,” this figure will “increase 25-fold between 2011 and 2016, accounting for over 70 percent of total mobile data traffic by the end of their forecast period.”

The fact that 70 percent of total mobile data traffic by the end of 2016 is expected to come from content consumption is of no small import. However, marketers are going to have to learn how to best adapt their content for these mobile platforms. Within the past year, mobile users have quickly taken to Vine, a social media app which allows users to share quick, short videos they shoot with their devices. Taking note of Vine’s success, Instagram quickly followed with it’s own short video feature, and other short form video mobile apps are sure to follow. Short form content is succinct, and more importantly, easy to consume. No doubt this fact won’t be lost on marketers who are aware of how quickly many content consumers can lose interest.
