The Latest Trends for Online Video Marketing

This post is 490 words —a 2 minute read.

The online video marketing landscape is constantly changing. In fact, it’s more like an ocean than a landscape, with new, innovative concepts and ideas floating to the top while older techniques, once thought to be tried-and-true, sink to the bottom. While we may not be able to predict the future, we can get a good idea of where online video marketing is headed by following the current. One thing’s for certain, online video marketing is, now more than ever, a cornerstone of a successful marketing campaign. From Fourth Source, here’s what a few of online video marketing’s best and brightest have to say about what’s in store.

Online Video Marketing in 2014

We’ve talked plenty about short-video formats like Vine and Instagram on our blog, and it looks like their influence will only grow in marketing strategies. And while these short formats may lend themselves to easy mass-production of content, it’s still important to remember to produce good content, even if it’s only a few seconds long. One good quality Vine is certainly worth much more than a few hastily produced ones, especially because consumers are much more likely to engage with and share good quality short videos on their social media pages.

Another trend we can expect to see in online video marketing is more of an emphasis on a dynamic relationship between consumers and brands using video as a communication medium. The internet has turned content marketing into a two way street, and the businesses that develop traffic going both ways will give themselves an edge. By encouraging consumers to respond to your content with content of their own, you’re engaging them on levels that marketers of the pre-internet days could only dream of. A great example of this can be found in our blog on Vine, and how GE harnessed the content production power of its base with its 6 Second Science Fair campaign.

Video marketing on mobile platforms is also expected to increase in 2014 and beyond. Especially important are the growth of video ads on social media platforms like Facebook. Users are more likely to engage with video ads than images on mobile devices, making them a more viable strategy as mobile devices and data use continue to grow.
